Release date : January 03, 2020

Director: Thirupathi SR

Producers: Sripathi Gangadas

Music Director : Suresh Bobbili

Along with a whole lot of little movies, yet another movie titled, Utthara, a horror-thriller has also hit the screens today. Let us see how it goes.

Story:

A jobless guy named Ashok (Sriram) and Swathi (Karronya Katrynn) who belong to the exact same village fall in love with one another. However they face trouble in the form of Swathi's father, that insists Sriram to earn money first for the finical security of the daughter. In order to make easy cash, Sriram, together with his friends enter an old house owned by Utthara. Who's this Utthara? Why did the friends enter her residence? Can the friends succeed in catching enormous money from the home? That forms the story.

Plus Factors:

The chemistry between the lead group and intimate scenes between them are implemented well. At the first half of the movie, the humorous and comic talk scenes involving the buddies' gang are impressive in typical Telangana slang. Hero Sriram is fine with his acting skills but he needs to improve a lot in further movies.

Coming to the heroine Karronya, she is the most important highlight of this movie as her cute looks and expressions will impress the viewer very much. Comedian Tillu Venu is fine in his personality as a small-time chief and evokes good pleasure with his dialogues. Four persons, who acted like the hero's friends are fine in their own roles.

Minus Points:

After a breezy narration at the first half of the movie, the director totally goes from this syllabus during the latter half by inserting driven terror components. After viewing the movie one common question flashes from the viewer mind is that why the manufacturers have labeled the film since Utthara. They totally neglected the detailing about the girl's personality and her backstory.

All the horror scenes at the second half failed to create an effect and so did the screenplay. The graphics and VFX work in the next half also looks cheap making the film look bad in many areas. The emotions showcased additionally look fake in several scenes.

Technical Aspects:

Cinematography by Charan Babu is good because he tried to bring an authentic flavor while showcasing the village places and atmosphere. Editing work is just about fine. Dialogues from Shiva Kalyan are great. Music by Suresh Bobbili is okay as two or three songs and background rating clicks. Production values for this particular low-budget film are adequate.

Lastly, manager Thirupathi SR tried his hands at the horror-comedy genre and neglected to succeed. Rather than making the movie as a half-baked horror movie, he should have written a much better love story by continuing the sense of the first half in the subsequent parts as well.

On the whole, Utthara is a misguided horror-thriller that fails to click. Though the love scenes in the first half and a couple of comedy punches click, the driven terror element in the second half of the movie completely making it a below-par watch that weekend. Start looking for something else intriguing.
