Dil Raju received a lot of flack if he chose to remake the cult Tamil hit 96 in Telugu. Titled Jaanu, this picture has hit the screen now and let's see whether it lives up to most of the hype or not.

Story:

He never proposes to her and after a while by, destiny keeps them apart. After fifteen years, both the Jaanu and Ram re-unite through their school reunion. To understand what goes on between these two after all these years, you will need to see the film on the large screen.

Pluses:

Remaking such a classic isn't a joke and credit should go to director Prem Kumar who has managed to keep the soul intact. One can say that this picture is a faithful movie with superlative performances by the lead group.

Sharwa, that was moving through a non demonstrates that which a great actor he's. He supplies his livelihood best performance and nails it as Ram. Can it be that the innocence or even the maturity in emotions, Sharwa takes it into another level with his endearing performance. He stands like the most significant highlight of the film.

For Samantha too, it was the hardest part but boy, she produces it once more. The celebrity in her takes a backseat as Sam becomes Jaanu and delivers a heart-wrenching performance. She brings tears into your eyes with her psychological action and is overly good during the climax. With each picture, the celebrity in her is taking rapid steps.

The chemistry between the lead pair may be the biggest strength. No additional celebrities besides Sam and Sharwa will have pulled this off. The young lovers showcased at the film have done a good job. The BGM is superb and is now the heart of the film.

Vennela Kishore gets yet another good role and he charms you with even in his limited screen presence. Tagubothu Ramesh understands a neat character and he overly impressed. Saranya Pradeep was apt as Sharwa's friend and brings a depth to the film.

Minus Points:

As the picture is a movie, most could have mixed responses and certainly will draw comparisons from the initial. So, for them the picture may be a bit dull. The film is a very clear A middle multiplex picture with not much entertainment.

The pace of the film is quite slow and one needs patience to savor the proceedings. There's absolutely no terrific play or spins in the love story since the narration is not plain. So a section will get it dull.

Technical Aspects:

Production values of the film are top notch as the span artwork in Vizag and school set up have been showcased superbly nicely. Music from Govind Vasantha is also excellent. Special mention to Chinmayi who has done a solid job with her dubbing for Samata.

Dialogues are simple yet create an effect. Production design can be quite great. Sticking into the manager Prem Kumar, he's been doing a sincere job with the remake as well. He maintained that the emotions in tact and failed to try anything fresh.

Verdict:

On the whole, Jaanu is really a faithful remake that has the emotions complete from the initial. The film will surely draw comparisons as the ones that did not see 96 will prefer the film and most of those who watched it'll discover that it's slow-paced. The film is clearly an A center and multiplex picture but Sharwanand and Samantha give career-best performances and shoulder the film till the end and which makes it a decent watch this weekend.
