Aswathama Telugu Move Review-- Emotional Action Thriller : Ashwathama is a film that must click at any price since Naga Shourya is going via a dull phase. The movie has released now and let us see whether it lives up to all of the hype or not.
Story:
Gana(Naga Shourya) returns to India for his sister's engagement. Right as soon as the function is going to occur, his sister tries to kill himself. Gana conserves her shockingly finds out that she's pregnant and the father to her child is unknown. A helpless Shourya begins exploring this situation and eventually nabs the offender. How does he do all this forms the remainder of the story.
Plus Points:
Naga Shourya creates a terrific transformation by a buff boy to an action hero. His screen presence, body language, and performance in fights and psychological scenes is quite good. He appears macho within an act avatar and demonstrates he can carry an entire action film on his shoulders. His scenes with his sister are pretty good.
Mehreen doesn't have much to do but plays a good supporting role. The action episodes and interval bang is the biggest highlight and sets up the period bang perfectly. Prince was effective in his little role and so were additional cast of the movie.
The first half has adrenaline pumping moments and they have been handled very well. One of the greatest highlights of the film is that the Bengali actor Jisshu Sen Gupta. He is on another level and provides a scary impact to the event. The way he's brought into the film and the way Jisshu performs is quite good.
Special mention to the action choreography which is spot on and has been implemented well. BGM by Ghibran is top notch and elevates the event quite well. The family emotions are adequate.
Minus Points:
So much pressure is created in the first half about who is behind the crime and this twist is revealed right after the period. Things could have been prolonged a bit to maintain the suspense intact. As a result of this, the remainder of the movie gets predictable.
Also, after facing so much strain to locate the villain in the first half, the protagonist finds him with just a small clue in the last fifteen minutes that looks somewhat over the top.
The second half has good minutes of the villain however, the hero-villain face off is just hurried up on the crowd and things are finished in a jiffy. Some more investigation scenes and actions episodes would have made things even special.
Technical Aspects:
Music by Sri Charan is only okay as some hit songs might have made matters better. The camera work is quite notable as Vizag, action sequences and evaluation scenes are showcased fairly well.
Dialogues are good and so was the production design. The film has a rich feel because the makers haven't compromised on the creating. Story by Naga Shourya is pretty good as he's maintained the logics intact and his script also includes a good emotional angle.
Coming to the director Ramana Teja, he makes a good debut and has made the film on a sensible note. The good part is that he did not deviate together with the story line much. If he had managed the film well in the second half with crisp narration, things might have been quite striking.
Verdict:
On the whole, Ashwathama is an emotional thriller with a riveting first half. Naga Shourya leads in the front and is superb in his action avatar. But the film bogs down in the second half of predictable scenes and hurried up climax. However, that does not mean that the movie becomes dull. It's some nicely packed thrills and ends up as a decent watch this weekend.
